Take a look around yourself. Who doesn't love to hear music while studying? But is it really good for us?
Haven't you heard of the Mozart effect?  It's the idea that listening to Mozart makes people smarter. It was a theory given in the early 1990's.
However, it is a temporary effect and the idea was very much debatable. As the benefits of listening to music while studying depend on the student and the type of music
Well, we all have different methods of studying and different capabilities. Some have a very high concentration power and some have a low, some are easily distracted by the slightest sound while others can stay focused even in a heavy traffic.

Yes music can help is in studying but it has both positive and negative effects.

As the exams approach, we are unable to sleep.
There are hundreds of pages to revise, we can't waste a single moment but at the same time we all are worried about how hard the paper will be and whether we will be able to pass the exam. At this stage music can reduce your stress, remove all your worries and help you to revive more efficiently. But if you are learning something new, don't do this.

3. Endurance
Listening to background music like classical ones can help you study for longer session and stay focused.

Listening to music benefits is somehow restricted to background music (only classical ones or the ones without any vocal part.)

Cons of listening to music while studying
Unfortunately listening music while studying has cons also.
Music can distract you
Listening to loud music while studying can make it more difficult for your mind to focus on one thing and it will become worse.
Listening to music with vocals while studying reduces the productivity by more than 10%.
And if you are listening to one of your favorite songs then congrats you are not studying. You are just singing in your head.

But be careful
If you are a person who gets easily carried away with the song imagining himself or herself in the wonders of scene or who sings along with the song, then
Dude this thing is not for you as it can distract you and will not give any good results. You may sit for longer session but you won't learn a lot.  You should try some other methods but not this one.
